Ingredients used in the chefs’ competition will be fresh harvested from the field, including vegetables generously donated by the Richmond Fruit Tree Sharing Project – an organization that grows and harvests food at Terra Nova Rural Park for the Richmond Food Bank. For more information, visit www.myterranova.ca.With a goal of minimizing the environmental impact of this event, visitors are asked to B.Y.O.C. - Bring Your Own Cup (or water bottle) – water will be available on-site to keep you cool and hydrated. Also, all visitors are encouraged to walk, ride your bike or carpool (parking is limited). A free shuttle bus service will depart from the City Works Yard (5599 Lynas Lane) every 15 minutes.
This event, which in the past has been held at Glen Valley Organic Farm in Abbotsford, has received tremendous support from the community. Show your support of this project by heading out to Terra Nova Rural Park (2631 Westminster Highway in Richmond) on Sunday August 19th and participating in Chefs to the Field.
Funds raised from this event will help Organic Friends of the Future in their mission to support the rights of organic farmers and to promote local organics. Chefs to the Field will also support the Terra Nova Schoolyard Project, a non-profit, community based garden project founded in 2006 by Chef Ian Lai (Instructor at Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver) which operates on 5000 square feet of growing space generously provided by the City of Richmond. The program aims to promote community, local organic food, healthy eating choices and food sustainability. Further details available at www.myterranova.ca.
