Many Summer Internships Are Going Organic

"Erin Axelrod, who graduated from Barnard College last week with an urban studies degree, will not be fighting over the bathroom with her five roommates on the Upper West Side this summer. Instead she will be living in a tent, using an outdoor composting toilet and harvesting vegetables on an organic farm near Petaluma, Calif.

As the sole intern at a boutique dairy in upstate New York, Gina Runfola, an English and creative writing student, has traded poetry books for sheep.

New research shows that putting organic produce in storage with low levels of oxygen can extend its shelf life.

New Canadian Organic Regulations

In case you have not heard, in 2003 national consultations began to create Canadian Organic regulations.

On December 22nd 2006, the Minister of Agriculture and Agr-Food Chuck Strahl announced the final publication of the Canadian Organic Products Regulations had taken place. These regulations will help protect consumers against false organic claims and will also govern the use of the new Canada Organic logo.

According to an article just published on The Tyee by Vanessa Richmond, it seems that..."jeans are a habit we need to kick. Dov Charney, the man behind American Apparel, calls cotton 'the nicotine of clothing.' And jeans, it seems, are double-strength menthols. No 'light' in sight."
